CHECK BACK IN THE FALL TO SEE WHEN THESE WILL BE RESCHEDULED
“Textures of the Southwest"
Virginia Brooks
All supplies provided.
If you have ever wanted to try oils, but did not want to make the
investment in the materials...then this is your perfect opportunity!
Everything is included, from the canvas to the paint and brushes. Learn to paint the textures of adobe, tile, weathered wood, and various
types of Southwestern foliage in this one-day oil painting workshop. We
will all paint the same subject at the same time, a weathered
southwestern garden gate. Every step will be explained to you.
Beginners are welcome, and the advanced artists will learn
specific tips for a successful oil painting. This will include
individual help in a small group setting.
Using the successful "Come Paint with Me" method used at Virginia's
studio in Carefree, we will all be painting the same image. She will
supply the photo of the subject, a Santa Fe style gate that will afford
us the opportunity to paint an old adobe wall, a gate of weathered wood
and a rustic courtyard. Foliage will include hollyhocks, and trees far
in the background that will indicate depth. The image may be
personalized with your own house number. Even if you are a beginner,
this step-by-step process will work for you.
We will talk about composition decisions and do a full color sketch in
the morning, from approximately 10 to noon. We will break for lunch for
an hour, while our sketches dry. If it is a cloudy day you might want to
bring a hair dryer to speed the drying. From 1 to 3pm we will finish the painting. And "yes", we will finish it
in this short time! Our full color morning sketch makes this a reality!
