Class/Workshop Title: Beginning Pottery
Instructor: Pat & Mike Markham
Date/Time: Fridays, January 10, 17, 24 9 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.
Each beginning student will be given group and individual instruction and opportunities to learn about the advantages and limitations of working with clay. Students will learn basic handbuilding techniques of making pinch, coil, and slab forms. Students will create individual projects with instructor assistance. All work will be bisque fired after which students will learn glazing techniques to apply to their creations. Student work will be high-fired to produce finished products.
Returning and more advanced students will be given individual instruction to help them expand and perfect their skill with clay.
Students will be given the opportunity to learn how to center clay and make bowls and cylinders on the potter’s wheel.
Mike: BA art education, MFA sculpture/3 dimensional design. Taught high school and university art classes. Self-employed custom furniture design. Sculptor creating non-objective, contemporary works. Nationwide exhibits
Pat: BS/MS elementary education. Taught 34 years elementary grades/6 years university adjunct professor. 20 years experience working with clay
