Class: Expressive Portraiture
Instructor: Mark Christopher
Date(s): Saturday, December 5
Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Modigliani, Picasso, Hals, Van Gogh, Khalo, what do they all have in common? A unique and expressive style used to capture the soul of their subject in a way only they could. This one day class is focused on finding your inner voice and using a live model to channel your creativity onto your paper or canvas. Artists may work in any 2-D medium, all that is required is an openness to creative exploration. Color theory, composition, and techniques used in your medium of choice will be featured in demonstrations throughout the day. You will be asked questions meant to help you probe what it is YOU want to say as an artist. This will be an incredibly fun and low pressure way to start working from life or to continue your development as a creative force!
Mark Christopher is a nationally renowned artist and teacher hailing from Phoenix Arizona. He has carried the title of artist of the year for the Portrait Artists of Arizona and Arizona Artist Guild as well as being a signature member of Oil Painters of America and the Portrait Society of America. His figurative work, landscapes and portraiture is widely collected. The human form has always been a key part of Mark’s creative inspiration and his focus on working from life encourages the deepest understanding of the figure. He prides himself on being able to distill complex topics down to their most crucial aspects and sharing that knowledge with his many students. This workshop is important because it helps students focus on their inner creative development as much as learning new techniques, which is something oft overlooked when we are learning new artistic things.
