Class/Workshop Title: Mix It Up On Canvas

Medium: Mixed Media & Collage

Instructor: Stan Kurth

Date/Time: Wed January 23 & 30, 2019, 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with half an hour lunch break

The workshop will teach participants ways to create mixed media/collage paintings on canvas using an intuitive process, starting without preconceived or elaborate planning. The process will dictate direction as students use a variety of collaging materials and techniques to implement color, texture (real and implied), line, shape and value. Instruction will start with semi-arbitrary application of collage materials in combination with acrylic, gesso, acrylic mediums and assorted mark making tools. There will be regular comments and evaluation as work progresses concerning relationships between design elements and principles. The goal is a mixed media/collage painting which is visually pleasing and aligned with the artist’s personal aesthetic. A critique will be held at the end of the last day.
