Behind The Scenes:
Counting Down To the 2026 TAL Studio Tour
The Terravita Art League's biggest event of the year is the annual Artists Studio tour — where resident members of TAL showcase (and often sell) their art at their own studios. To be held over two days — March 14-15 — this is a premier social event for the entire Terravita community.
As Sue Lewis puts it, "This annual event is all about showcasing art. We spend so much of our lives creating, and we want to share it with our friends and neighbors."
The artists on tour offer something for everyone:
- Painting
- Sculpture
- Jewelry
- Ceramics
- Photography
- Collage
- Pastel
Check out the slide show at the end of this article to see examples of art displayed in 2025.
ARTISTS GET READY
Deb said, "The main thing on most people's minds if they're new to the Studio Tour is wondering if they feel ready to participate. It's a leap for some of the new artists."
Some things artists exhibiting need to consider:
- Planning — how much time it will take to prepare, display equipment needed (tables, easels, etc.), traffic patterns or bottlenecks, weather contingencies, possibly partnering with another artist at their studio or including a demonstration of a work in progress to invite questions.
- Details — Extra lighting? A magnifying glass for viewing small details? A mirror for trying on jewelry?
- Teamwork — asking someone to help set up, act as backup for busy times or allow the artist time to visit other studios.
- Creating an inviting space — Add helium balloons to the yard sign? Provide cookies, wrapped candies, water, background music?
- Sales — While sales aren't the main focus of the event, some guests will ask — so artists need to be prepared by marking work with prices or having a price list and marking "NFS" on work not for sale. What types of payment will be accepted — cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, Square or other?
SAVE THE DATES!
This is a great opportunity to spend time with friends or family, enjoy the art, talk with the artists about how they create their pieces and what inspires them.
There are likely to be more than a dozen studios on the tour. Directional and yard signs will point the way, and colorful sandwich boards will identify each studio. Well before the event, TAL will offer tour brochures and maps to help you plan your day (or days!).
