Class Description:

The genre Urban sketching started the whole movement of casual sketching with ink pens and adding a super random wash to enhance the sketch. Of course you can sketch! It's not drawing. It's getting the effect of the object and not the exact replica. It's very fun and easy to do especially Arizona landscapes. Even the Grand Canyon!! It also compliments your painting efforts. A 10 min sketch before starting your painting can help with decisions on the painting.

Instructor Biography:

I was a commercial artist and graphic designer for 25 years specializing in printed publications for industry and commerce, both in the States and New Zealand. I taught various design classes for the local community college while there. After retiring, I returned to the US and turned to fine art. I discerned urban sketching and joined a local group in Portland Oregon. I also took local classes here in Phoenix. It's a very portable medium! You can sketch anywhere! I find it compliments my painting. By sketching first I am studying the landscape and deconstructing it to pick up its essence.
